The Teton Mountain Range

The Grand Teton peak rises above the others in the Teton mountain range. Shot from the Grand Teton National Park, near Jackson Hole. Just beautiful mountains surrounded by some of the nicest land I have ever hiked. A must see for anyone visiting the area. Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming-US.

Hay Wyoming

Some ranch and farmland about an hour south of Jackson Hole, Wyoming-USA. Wide open spaces, broken up by large jagged mountains, and filled with nice people is how I would generally describe this part of the US, including Idaho. These bales of hay are pretty large, and go on into the distance for miles.

Great American Eclipse Totality

With so many excellent photos that zoom in on the corona of the sun, I decided I wanted to pay attention to the effect the lighting had on the surrounding landscape using a wide angle shot. Nothing can capture how truly odd the lighting and color is during totality, but I am pleased with the result I achieved here. It is very much as I remember, everything was cast in a blue violet light, with short sharp shadows (as opposed to the long shadows of sunset). I got extremely lucky with a location on the west side of the Teton mountain range, opposite side from Jackson Hole, in Wyoming (some call it Wydaho since it is accessible through Idaho). The area offered a beautiful landscape complete with a small ranch fence surrounding a pond, which I was determined to get in the shot. A cheer echoed off the mountains from many hundreds of other hikers at totality, all who were beyond our view. 2 exposures; quick one for the eclipsed sun, and a longer one for the landscape. Shot near Alta, Idaho-USA in the Grand Teton National Park.

Eating With the Kids

A monarch butterfly feeds along with some caterpillars on a milkweed plant. The summer butterfly season is slowly winding down, but 2017 was a good one, especially for monarch sightings. Pennypack Trust, Huntingdon Valley, PA-USA

Space Walk- Sold a Framed Print!

Thanks very much to the buyer of "Space Walk", and a framed print yet! Very happy that my love of all things space was enough for someone to buy this, and I hope you enjoy it!

This is a mock up of an astronaut using a thruster pack during a spacewalk on a Shuttle mission. I added a photo I shot of the supermoon in July 2014.

Monarch Caterpillars

Two monarch caterpillars munch on some milkweed in preparation for entering their pupa stage. I never encountered monarch caterpillars in the wild before, so I was really stoked when I saw these. Beautiful creatures in all stages of their life cycle. Pennypack Trust, PA-USA.

Atmospherics

A twin prop plane flying through sun rays on a summer afternoon. Great clouds this day, the plane and rays just presented themselves at the perfect moment. Something about planes in clouds has fascinated me since I was a kid, probably a result of growing up near a small airport that only flew small propeller planes. I actually love to fly in planes like this, haven't done it in years. Montgomeryville, PA-USA.

Dreaming in Mono

A free seat to enjoy the end of Autumn, shot at Pennypack Trust, PA-USA. It always feels to me that the end of what we call Autumn, when almost all of the leaves have dropped, is black and white season for photography. The light from the open field contrasted with the darkness from under the tree canopy and made what I hope is an inviting monotone image.

Cloudless Sulphur on Queen Anne's Lace

This small Phoebis Sennae butterfly, known by it's rock star name 'Cloudless Sulphur', feeds off the flowers of Queen Anne's Lace in the late afternoon summer. Queen Anne's Lace is a fancy name for a wild carrot, with most of the plant being edible. And Cloudless Sulfur is about the coolest butterfly name I've heard of. If I had any musical chops, I would name my band this. Carl Kohler Park, Horsham PA-USA

Monarch the Wandering Butterfly

A monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) feeds off of the nectar of a flower. They are passing through our region of Southeast Pennsylvania this time of year, from late July to early August. I think this is a male, but can be difficult to tell by an untrained eye such as mine.
